How to Remove a Simple Solid-Color Watermark on Mac

If you own an image or have permission to edit it, a simple flat-color watermark can sometimes be reduced without installing a desktop editor.

ShowPro's Image Watermark Remover uses a deliberately simple browser-side algorithm:

Select an image.

Click a representative watermark color.

Choose a color tolerance and neighborhood radius.

The tool finds pixels close to that sampled color.

Those pixels are replaced with an average of nearby pixels outside the sampled color range.

The result is exported as PNG.

This is not AI inpainting and it does not know what was originally behind the watermark.

When this method works best

The current tool is most useful when the watermark is a fairly uniform color, simple text or logo, placed over a relatively smooth background, and visually distinct from the surrounding image.

A white logo over a dark flat area or dark text over a pale background is a much better candidate than a translucent logo over hair, foliage, fabric, or a detailed photograph.

When it is likely to look poor

A color-based method is a poor fit when the watermark is semi-transparent across many colors, a gradient, very large, similar in color to important parts of the image, or placed over detailed texture.

The algorithm scans the image for colors near the sampled watermark color. Increasing tolerance can therefore alter legitimate pixels elsewhere in the image.

For complex removal, use a proper image editor with clone, heal, or content-aware tools instead.

How to use the ShowPro tool on Mac

Open the Image Watermark Remover at https://showprosoftware.com/tools/image-watermark-remover in Safari, Chrome, Firefox, or another modern Mac browser.

Choose an image you are allowed to edit.

Click directly on a representative part of the watermark.

Start with a low Color Tolerance.

Choose a small Fill Radius.

Run the removal.

Compare the result with the original.

If too little of the mark is affected, raise tolerance gradually.

If nearby image detail is being damaged, reduce tolerance.

Download the result as PNG when satisfied.

What Color Tolerance does

Tolerance controls how similar a pixel must be to the sampled watermark color before ShowPro treats it as part of the mark.

A small value is selective. A larger value affects a wider range of colors.

There is no single correct number because anti-aliased text, shadows, and transparent logos contain multiple color values.

What Fill Radius does

For each affected pixel, the tool looks at neighboring pixels that are not within the watermark color tolerance.

It averages those nearby colors and uses that average as the replacement.

A larger radius samples from farther away. That can help on simple backgrounds, but can also blur or mix unrelated colors.

Why the tool cannot reconstruct hidden detail

A watermark physically replaces or blends with image pixels. Once that happens, the exact original pixels may no longer be available.

ShowPro's current algorithm does not contain a generative model that can infer missing scene detail. It only uses nearby pixel colors.

So "remove" should be understood as reduce or blend a simple watermark, not recover the exact untouched source.

Privacy: where the image processing happens

The current watermark-removal operation reads the selected file with browser APIs, processes the pixels with an HTML canvas, and creates the output in the browser.

The selected image is not sent to a ShowPro image-processing endpoint for this operation.

That does not mean the website itself is offline: ShowPro may still use ordinary networked website functionality such as analytics, advertising, and billing. The processing boundary is described at https://showprosoftware.com/privacy#local-processing.

Does it work with HEIC?

The watermark tool relies on the browser's normal image decoder to load the selected image.

Current Safari can decode HEIC/HEIF web images, while Chrome, Edge, and Firefox do not natively render HEIC as normal web images. If the browser cannot decode your HEIC file, first make a broadly compatible copy with https://showprosoftware.com/tools/heic-to-jpg and then use the watermark tool on the JPG.

Does ShowPro use a brush tool?

No. The current implementation does not provide a paint brush, selection mask, undo stack, or automatic object detector.

You choose a color by clicking the image; the algorithm applies that color rule across the image.

Can it remove a translucent stock-photo watermark?

Sometimes it can reduce parts of one, but that is not the tool's ideal use case. Semi-transparent marks inherit colors from the background and therefore do not have one clean sampled color.

For that type of editing, a desktop image editor is usually more appropriate.

Use watermark removal responsibly

Remove watermarks only from images you own or have permission to modify. A watermark can identify copyright ownership, licensing terms, or provenance.
